Model assumptions

The calculator uses the values you enter together with standard assumptions, including postcode solar-zone rating, annual solar generation, electricity usage and export tariffs, self-consumption and indicative state and federal support values. Solar installed-cost screening is reconstructed from Solfuture's published Victorian 50, 100 and 150 kW package starting prices by adding back the support components embedded in those prices. Other sizes use an interpolation or extrapolation for initial screening only and are not advertised package offers.

Actual system size, generation, savings, bill reduction, cost and payback can vary materially with interval data, tariff structure, demand charges, export limits, roof area and condition, orientation, shading, equipment, design, network approval, installation pricing, finance, tax treatment and operating changes at the site.

Government support and policy

Calculator V14 uses the site postcode to choose a planning pathway. Federal solar STC support outside Victoria uses the Clean Energy Regulator's postcode solar-zone rating, the 2026 five-year deeming period, whole certificates and an assumed A$38.20certificate value. For systems above 100 kW, any future STC treatment remains subject to the regulations, final rules and project eligibility applying at installation.

VEU is included only for a recognised Victorian postcode and eligible new capacity between 30 and 200 kW. The approximate VEEC count uses system size, the applicable input factor, a 10-year lifetime and the postcode's metropolitan or regional factor, rounded to a whole-certificate estimate and valued at an assumed A$70 per VEEC. Eligibility, certificate quantity and the final customer discount must be confirmed by a VEU-accredited provider. Provider fees and commercial terms may affect the final amount.

The published 50, 100 and 150 kW metropolitan package anchors are A$54,999, A$64,999 and A$69,999 ex GST after the modelled STC and VEU components. Regional results may differ because the VEU location factor changes the indicative VEEC quantity. A package price, policy announcement or calculator estimate is not a guaranteed rebate, certificate value, discount or eligibility decision.

For a recognised NSW postcode, the calculator selects the closest of seven modelled PV + storage packages under the BESS4 small and medium business pathway commencing 1 September 2026: 50 + 50, 75 + 101, 100 + 101, 125 + 125, 150 + 150, 175 + 175 and 200 + 200 kW/kWh. These are closest-fit combinations from Solfuture's supplied planning table: solar DC does not exceed usable battery capacity, and the unavailable 75 and 100 kWh battery sizes are excluded. The model assumes a four-hour inverter relationship, the higher coefficient for qualifying new solar, a 15-year activity lifetime, the six-hour summer peak period, a 1.04 Ausgrid planning loss factor and A$3.00 per Peak Reduction Certificate.

BESS4 eligibility also depends on matters including grid connection, building use, approved equipment, an appropriately accredited installer, AS/NZS 5139, planning and network approvals, an internet-connectable demand-response-capable system, no previous BESS4 or BESS5 implementation at the site and at least A$5,000 customer payment. The higher pathway requires sufficient new solar within 90 days of the battery. The calculator uses a conservative 1.04 planning network-loss factor; the final factor depends on the relevant network. The supplied model includes the capped federal battery STC amount only for the 50 kW + 50 kWh package, using the current tapered capacity bands and A$38.20 per STC. The prominent NSW result is total indicative certificate support—not a customer purchase price, cash rebate or quote. Battery hardware, installation and the complete package price are provided after a site and load review.

All calculator cost outputs exclude GST. Policy settings, regulations, certificate prices, published starting prices and eligibility requirements can change. Final treatment depends on the rules and evidence that apply to the project when it proceeds. Any Solfuture recommendation or proposal is prepared separately after reviewing relevant information such as electricity bills, interval data, site conditions, network constraints and the customer's objectives. A calculator result does not reserve pricing, equipment, installation capacity or government support.

Any proposal is subject to its own scope, assumptions, exclusions, validity period and terms. Where calculator output and a later written proposal differ, the written proposal and supporting assessment take priority.
